WWZ counts on Landis+Gyr for their smart meter rollout

Zug, Switzerland – January 30, 2020 – Landis+Gyr will supply the technology for the first wave smart meter rollout of Swiss energy supplier WWZ AG. The scope includes cutting-edge meters as well as the requisite communication technology and a meter data processing service, which are implemented in cooperation with a third-party provider. WWZ supplies customers in the Swiss Canton of Zug and the surrounding regions with water, electricity, gas, heat, cold and telecommunications.

By 2024, around 70,000 metering points will be replaced with smart meters and smart metering systems in the WWZ grid. As a first step, Landis+Gyr will supply a tranche of approximately 30,000 E450 (direct measuring) and E570 (transformer) meters, as well as data concentrators and load switching devices. Esolva AG, which specializes in metering services, provides a comprehensive meter data processing system as a service. This includes the complete Head End System (HES) from Landis+Gyr with the important key management system to ensure the data security of the entire smart metering system.

“As a global player rooted in Switzerland, we are very pleased to continue our longstanding and successful partnership with WWZ. Our companies are not only linked by their headquarters in Zug and a history that dates back to the 19th century. We also share the attitude that good traditions can only be continued through the courage to innovate and renew,” said Susanne Seitz, Executive Vice President for the EMEA region at Landis+Gyr. “With our flexible smart metering solutions, we are making an important contribution to a future-proof WWZ grid.”

“With Landis+Gyr we have chosen an experienced partner, who can support us in carrying out the rollout,” commented Andreas Widmer, CEO of WWZ. “Among other reasons we have chosen the partnership with Landis+Gyr for the flexibility and functionality.”
